Kogi Governor flown to Abuja for treatment, leg ‘totally broken’

Kogi Governor escaped fatal road accident with a broken thigh.

Governor Idris Wada of Kogi State may have lost one of his legs in the fatal road accident that immediately killed his aide.

Doctors at the Lokoja Specialist Hospital where Mr. Wada received first aid treatment said his leg is “totally broken.”

The doctors said the governor was brought into the intensive care unit with a severely fractured femur, a senior government official said. He added that the doctors said the governor is in good condition and did not sustain major head or spinal cord injuries.

“There is hope,” he said.

The state government arranged for a helicopter which flew the governor to the National Hospital in Abuja, a source at the government house told PREMIUM TIMES.

The governor is in “serious pains,” the aide, who saw the governor at the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital, said.

The governor’s convoy was involved in an auto crash on Lokoja-Ajaokuta road, around Salem University on Friday afternoon.

The accident left his aide-de-camp dead, Idris Mohammed, and injured two other officials.

The cause of the accident is still unknown. The stretch of road where the accident occurred has no potholes – a major cause of accidents on Nigerian roads.

A witness told PREMIUM TIMES that the part of the road immediately before the accident spot had “banking issues.”

Banking is the necessary force that helps cars avoid skidding while moving on curved path/road.

It takes courage and foresight to plan and carry out projects that will benefit the people. A standard hospital in lokoja would have become handy in treating a “totally broken” femur. Though gov. Wada may not be to blame for this, its important to know what plans he has on the ground so that afuture governor will not risk losing his life in the long process of chattering a helicopter and ferrying him to Abuja.

      Very good observation Dan.

If one is to go by this report and the banking issue on the road, one may attribute the accident to over speeding.

On a banked road, automobile mechanics and physical sciences has shown that there must be speed limit for banked road to avoid skidding.. Any serious engineering student that did Mechanics in first or second year in the Uni should know this formula for speed limit, angle of inclination and weight of the vehicle to ensure stability of vehicle and to avoid skidding in a banked road.

.I am not sure our FRSC are aware of this.At banked roads there should be road sign for speed limit to guide road users. Unfortunately, most road users in Nigeria are stacked illiterates when it comes to road safety and traffic rules and regulations.

It’s unfortunate how Nigerians die on things that can be avoided if only the victims know and do the right thing to safe their own lives and the lives of others.

one by one all you wicked people will be evaporated from Nigeria and you will suffer for all the misfortune you have caused the 80% of poverty stricken Nigerians who die daily like ants because of your lack of discretion and wisdom to do the right thing. Have never traveled by road and not see a road accident happen either before i get there after i get there or right in my front it all happens in infinitesimal seconds. when all of this can be avoided with good smooth road with warning signs and devices to capture those speeding above the speed limit. The money is not lacking, some people at the top just think they should enrich themselves. With all the thieves that have died i wonder how many of them were buried with all those vanity they amassed for themselves????? and some of this asset will die with them because they never told anyone they purchased it. Nobody wants to die you all better start coming clean or face the wrath of death and IT WILL SPARE NO ONE!!!!!!!!

He is lucky ! You know your roads are bad so slow down and take time..

The convoy team should begin to learn from this accident amongst others. Speed kills and that pleasure to drive at very high speed to the detriment of other road users and life of theirs and their masters can always send them to the graves.
Logically, your life should be saved before you can save the life’s of others. It is enough for the wise!.
    This Governor requires an urgent
    Medical attention, please.
