The police in Sokoto State say they repelled an attack by suspected bandits on Tsabre village in Isa Local Government Area and recovered two rocket launchers abandoned by the attackers.
The attack occurred at about 1 a.m. on Friday, according to a statement by the police spokesperson in the state, Ahmad Rufa’i.
Mr Rufa’i said a large number of armed men entered the community and fired shots, causing panic among residents.
He said the divisional police officer in Isa mobilised tactical teams, including the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and the Violent Crime Response Unit, after receiving a distress call.

The security personnel engaged the attackers in a gun battle, forcing them to retreat into a nearby forest, the spokesperson said.

Mr Rufa’i said the attackers fled but did not disclose whether any of them were killed or how many were injured.
The statement also did not say whether any residents or security personnel were killed or injured during the attack.

A search of the surrounding area afterwards led to the recovery of two rocket launchers and two empty AK-47 magazines, according to the police.
Other items recovered included a Tecno keypad phone without a battery, a torchlight, an army jungle hat, a sweater cap, five pairs of sandals and a rain jacket.

The police did not announce any arrest or provide details about the type and condition of the recovered rocket launchers.
The Commissioner of Police in Sokoto State, Hayatu Shaffa, commended the officers involved in the operation and urged residents to report suspicious activities.

He also asked members of the public to alert security agencies if they notice people with suspected gunshot wounds seeking medical attention.
