The police in Imo State say they have arrested vigilante operatives filmed assaulting two siblings – a man and a lady – en route to the Abia State University, Uturu.
The police spokesperson in Imo State, Henry Okoye, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.

In the clip, one of the armed operatives was seen punching the male student before hitting him with his rifle.
While he assaulted the victim, he appeared enraged upon realising that the victim’s sister was filming him.
The operative then charged at the victim’s sister and appeared to cock his gun to shoot her. But his colleague repeatedly restrained him.
“Shoot me. Come and take my phone,” the woman was heard yelling at the operative.
“If you know what you’re doing is right, I’ll keep videoing you. You punched my mouth,” she added.
Arrest and detention
In the Tuesday statement, Mr Okoye, a deputy superintendent of police, said contrary to initial claims, the operatives are personnel of the Imo State Vigilante Organisation, not police operatives.
“The individuals, identified as Ejiogu Nchekwube and Caleb Onyebuchi, have been arrested and are currently detained at the Okigwe Divisional Police Headquarters, while investigation into the incident continues,” he said.

The spokesperson said the Commissioner of Police in Imo State, Audu Bosso, has reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, and respect for the rights of members of the public.
Mr Bosso assured residents of Imo State that anyone found culpable would face appropriate action in accordance with the law.
The police chief urged the residents to remain calm and refrain from circulating unverified information, while relying on official channels for verified updates.
“Further information will be communicated to the public as the investigation progresses,” he assured.
